Such a great tip for sharing information with spanish speaking parents!

30:20
does the translation only work through zoom?

30:36
No it is a part of PPT, not zoom

31:07
Google slides have option of translate too

31:23
thanks

31:38
Google slides does it too, but it does not punctuate the way that PPT does.

31:51
How do you make the translation work?

32:20
I’ll address the translation after the presentation and model it

32:46
On google slides, tool bar its an option og translate

33:23
Thanks!

39:57
Tami, I want to make sure I understand well. When I have my PPT up and explaining to students, parents present during virtual class, the PPT translate will translate in Spanish while I am explaining, am I correct?

40:27
yes @Lianne

41:30
Could you please share these pages

42:04
Thank you... did I miss the steps on how to get to the translator in PPT translator... I am so mesmerized at translating at the same timeLOL

43:25
Thanks much

44:25
So many great resources available at https://bealearninghero.org/

45:03
I appreciate this webinar. Family connections are so important and supporting parents at this time is crucial to student success during this new way of teaching/learning

45:34
Not trying to be rude, but how long is this presentation?

45:50
Thanks for joining Amy!

46:18
This is a 1 hour program.

46:24
Thank you so much

47:40
And these materials are vetted by parents and teachers and supported by research!

48:56

49:09
Yes you will.

49:18
Thank you

49:51
Does this work for high school?

50:27
This readiness tool is for grades K-8

50:35
Thanks

59:22
Is there any diagnostic test to use in the beginning of the school to check what grade level student is?

59:48
no problem!

01:00:22
square: Parent involvement is essential to student success.

01:00:31
Square: Parents are an integral part of the educational process

01:00:32
What I learned today that squares with my beliefs is that Parents & Teachers are in this together!

01:00:40
Circle: Would the landing page work in a 9-12 setting?

01:00:53
Square: I believe in having a strong connection with families and believe it is important to empower them to be supports for their children

01:00:54
circle: when is the best time for me to implement these tools this year

01:00:55
Sorry, wrong response to all panelists. Re: diagnostics, readiness check can be used as a supplemental short assessment but that’s the closest we have to one.

01:00:56
I will remember the 5 tips.

01:00:57
Triangle- focus on less, go deeper

01:00:57
Square: Parents are large part of process

01:00:57
Square: Parents and teachers are partners in educating students.

01:01:01
square, Parents/teachers and administrators are all in this together

01:01:01
I agree that we need to partner with parents for a plan. It's easy for us to assign work, but the parents have so many responsibilities at home as well, and we have to be cognizant of that and not overly burden them.

01:01:02
Square: Parent-teacher collaboration is very crucial, especially during blended learning times

01:01:04
S- to always connect with parents and share data and observations about their child

01:01:07
square: important role parents play in their child's education and making them feel valued as part of the process

01:01:11
circle: I don’t know how to get this out to all 400 parents reliably. having them reply to emails is tough

01:01:31
The square I learned to keep a connection between parents and teachers

01:01:40
Square: less is more.

01:01:40
square:Parental involvement shows respect for parents as well as being essential

01:01:40
S-building positive relationships with parents is key!

01:01:41
Circle - why do we persist in using developmentally inappropriate standards and labeling schools as “failing” instead of being responsive to the way children actually learn?

01:01:42
SQUARE: “Less is more!” Focusing on the essential essentials will provide a bigger bang for our. Buck — especially with the time constraints of DL.

01:02:00
Q from FB Live:Christina M. Haggard asks Are there resources set up for EC students?

01:02:12
Triangle: - Websites provided - access to impt resources; the role of the parent; less is more

01:02:14
I also agree that ‘less is more’ and that’s how we’ve structured learning for our students. Deeper & Intentional are the keys over too much content.

01:02:15
parent teacher communication is imperative!

01:02:15
Square- Connecting and Collaborating with families are important to build relationships.

01:02:22
T- To provide 3 skills of the child that parents can focus on and likewise to offer recommen

01:02:32
In terms of a triangle, letting parents know that their voice is needed is important. I love the Readiness check resource, and will definitely share that with my parents. And leaning into how your child is feeling--particularly in these times--is important. That's so easy to overlook but imperative that we pay attention to this.

01:02:35
Triangle: 1. It's good to be able to connect with parents in their home language. 2. Administrators also need to connect with teachers/parents in a positive way. 3. Parents being able to have an app that would provide information is a great resourse.

01:02:36
S: Less is more. Trying to cover so much is overwhelming for the teacher, students and parents.

01:02:43
s- less is more! You can have parents use bealearninghero.org to assess their children and get practice tools

01:02:49
circle- parents didn't plan on being teachers, but for K-2, it's a necessity right now

01:03:10
S - love the readiness check

01:03:22
While this information is important at the beginning of the year, do you feel that it should be shared at other times of the year - to keep them refreshed?

01:03:30
Circle - how do I use this in High School

01:03:35
circle: How do you engage parents who show little to no interest in the education of their children?

01:03:39
Circle: Do teachers get the results of the readiness check? Or, do just the parents get the results?

01:04:02
square: Parents can give ideas on the best ways to work with their kids.

01:04:05
triangle: free resource, readiness check for parents and teachers, addresses all cultures/ languages

01:04:15
Circle: I teach 9-12, and am wondering how to do this with 160 families

01:04:17
great question

01:04:31
Pre-k (as I said earlier, has so much flexibility)... Family connection and social/emotional support is soooooo important for all ages and adults year round.

01:04:35
Square: We have what is called APTT 3 times a year. It shows what their child knows at the beginning of the school year. We show 2 strategies to help their child improve in that skill and then the parent makes a goal indicating what their child will achieve for the next APTT meeting. It mentions who and how long that person will help their child achieve their goal. The 2nd APTT they review the goal and if they achieved it and they make a new goal for that skill.

01:04:45
Triangle: 1) Listen to Parents; 2)Be a Partner with Parents; 3) SEL is vital, during this time for kids & parents

01:05:36
I am a special education teacher. I am fortunate to cycle with my parents through the elementary years. That helps to build trust and gets the parents to know you and you knowing them.

01:05:46
Windy could you please share the name of your organization, I am from Michigan

01:06:05
@Susrinder It is Learning Heroes

01:06:16
That is what we are doing all this week.

01:06:20
Thanks @Tami

01:06:41
Triangle 1. create a relationship with parents so you can have honest conversations together. 2. reassuring parents through virtual learning. 3. emphasis this with hard to reach parents.

01:07:25
that’s great, Tracie!

01:07:27
Some of those hardest to reach hparents are because they don't feel connected to the teacher. One from last year is on the phone as the teacher this year is a Spanish speaking teacher.

01:07:59
nonjudgment

01:08:37
We have to teach them ways they can do simple things with their children and acknowledge that parents come from different cultures and have different family dinamics

01:08:42
Windy is at Learning Heroes, https://bealearninghero.org/

01:09:02
Thank you for that example, Tami.

01:09:03
I love seeing the great resources and affirmations being shared here in this learning community!

01:09:23
Yes, being nonjudgmental is very important!

01:09:58
Thank you

01:10:23
Sorry, I might have missed it… Are there resources for 9 & 10 grade parents?

01:10:48
Yay! I see pre-k on there

01:11:17
Yes, they span all grades, but some are more oriented to k-8

01:11:19
Some are focused on K-8 but the Readiness Check can be used for rising 9 and 10th graders and we also have parent resources for H.S parents to share with your families..
