Tami, I want to make sure I understand well. When I have my PPT up and explaining to students, parents present during virtual class, the PPT translate will translate in Spanish while I am explaining, am I correct?

Sorry, wrong response to all panelists. Re: diagnostics, readiness check can be used as a supplemental short assessment but that’s the closest we have to one.

I will remember the 5 tips.

Triangle- focus on less, go deeper

Square: Parents are large part of process

Square: Parents and teachers are partners in educating students.

square, Parents/teachers and administrators are all in this together

I agree that we need to partner with parents for a plan. It's easy for us to assign work, but the parents have so many responsibilities at home as well, and we have to be cognizant of that and not overly burden them.

Square: Parent-teacher collaboration is very crucial, especially during blended learning times

S- to always connect with parents and share data and observations about their child

square: important role parents play in their child's education and making them feel valued as part of the process

circle: I don’t know how to get this out to all 400 parents reliably. having them reply to emails is tough

The square I learned to keep a connection between parents and teachers

Square: less is more.

Circle - why do we persist in using developmentally inappropriate standards and labeling schools as “failing” instead of being responsive to the way children actually learn?

I also agree that ‘less is more’ and that’s how we’ve structured learning for our students. Deeper & Intentional are the keys over too much content.

In terms of a triangle, letting parents know that their voice is needed is important. I love the Readiness check resource, and will definitely share that with my parents. And leaning into how your child is feeling--particularly in these times--is important. That's so easy to overlook but imperative that we pay attention to this.

Triangle: 1. It's good to be able to connect with parents in their home language. 2. Administrators also need to connect with teachers/parents in a positive way. 3. Parents being able to have an app that would provide information is a great resourse.

S: Less is more. Trying to cover so much is overwhelming for the teacher, students and parents.

s- less is more! You can have parents use bealearninghero.org to assess their children and get practice tools

circle- parents didn't plan on being teachers, but for K-2, it's a necessity right now

S - love the readiness check

While this information is important at the beginning of the year, do you feel that it should be shared at other times of the year - to keep them refreshed?

circle: How do you engage parents who show little to no interest in the education of their children?

Circle: Do teachers get the results of the readiness check? Or, do just the parents get the results?

square: Parents can give ideas on the best ways to work with their kids.

Circle: I teach 9-12, and am wondering how to do this with 160 families

Pre-k (as I said earlier, has so much flexibility)... Family connection and social/emotional support is soooooo important for all ages and adults year round.

Square: We have what is called APTT 3 times a year. It shows what their child knows at the beginning of the school year. We show 2 strategies to help their child improve in that skill and then the parent makes a goal indicating what their child will achieve for the next APTT meeting. It mentions who and how long that person will help their child achieve their goal. The 2nd APTT they review the goal and if they achieved it and they make a new goal for that skill.

Triangle: 1) Listen to Parents; 2)Be a Partner with Parents; 3) SEL is vital, during this time for kids & parents

I am a special education teacher. I am fortunate to cycle with my parents through the elementary years. That helps to build trust and gets the parents to know you and you knowing them.

Some of those hardest to reach hparents are because they don't feel connected to the teacher. One from last year is on the phone as the teacher this year is a Spanish speaking teacher.

Yes, they span all grades, but some are more oriented to k-8

Some are focused on K-8 but the Readiness Check can be used for rising 9 and 10th graders and we also have parent resources for H.S parents to share with your families..
